What is the VI Peel?
This latest generation of peel formula combines a powerful combination of TCA, Phenol, Retin A, Salicylic Acid and Vitamin C. They peel the outer layers of the epidermis slightly deeper then a superficial peel, therefore more able to treat severe sun damage and other skin conditions such as acne and scarring.

How much improvement can I expect?
Stubborn brown marks that may be a result of hormonal changes above the lip, cheeks and forehead respond well to this peel. Acne scarring can be treated and acne improved. Skin that has brown marks, fine lines and a rough uneven appearance as a result of sun damage can see dramatic results from this peel. Helps combat the aging process by stimulating collagen and elastin production, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

How many treatments will it take to see “best results.”
Medium Depth Peels yield results similar to a laser resurfacing treatment in just one session. One peel is usually sufficient for sun damage, however melasma may require two peels spaced 2-4 weeks apart. This peel can be repeated once a year to maintain results.

What are the advantages?
It is more cost effective then most laser treatments and yields similar results. It is very safe and can be done on all skin types including darker skin types such as African American and Hispanic skin. The extensive peeling occurs on the third day and fourth two and is complete by day five.

What are the disadvantages?
Some down time is needed to allow for the extensive peeling that occurs, especially on the third and fourth day after the peel. For this reason, I recommend scheduling an appointment Wednesday afternoon to allow time to peel over the weekend.

The following information will help achieve the optimum results.

• Avoid any procedures or harsh treatments two weeks prior to and after the peel such as waxing, electrolysis, IPL’s, etc.
• If you’ve received a laser treatment such as Fraxel, wait 4-6 weeks after the laser treatment before scheduling this peel.

Contra indications’:
• Allergy due to Salicylic Acid
• Pregnant or nursing
• Have used Accutane in the last 3 months
• Active Herpes sore (if you get herpes sore then I recommend taking a prescribed therapy such as Valtrex 5 days prior to and 5 days after the peel)Prior to the VI Peel™
• No skin preparations required for this peel; continue using products right up to the day of the peel, including Retinol and Retin A
• Four hours prior to the peel, do not apply any creams, moisturizers or sunscreen to the peel area

VI Peel™ - immediately after
• Immediately after the peel, skin might be red and blotchy. It may be sensitive, feel slightly warm, and irritated. To relieve any discomfort, put crushed ice in a zip lock bag and slowly pass over the skin, trying to keep it dry.
• Do not apply anything to the skin, including sunscreen.
• The peel solution must be left on the skin overnight and kept dry until the next day.
• Areas of sun damage will appear much darker.
• The entire face will be red and darker similar to a sunburn.

VI Peel™ - Day 1
• Wash your face with a gentle gel cleanser such as the Albissa Clinical Skin Care cucumber cleansing gel.
• Take one of the post peel towelettes and rub all of the solution over the peeled areas.
• Do not rub off the skin, but make sure all of the solution on the towelettes is rubbed into the skin, not just lightly patted. Make sure to rub under the eye area and the brow bone if those areas were peeled.
• Let the skin dry.
• If the skin feels very dry you can apply the Albissa Clinical Skin Care Multi Vitamin Cream or one provided. If it feels uncomfortable you can apply a 1% hydrocortisone cream.
• Continue to apply this moisturizer mixture 3 times a day throughout the peeling process
• Wash your face one hour prior to bedtime with a gentle cleanser such as Albissa Cucumber Gel (hyperlink to product) and pat dry, apply the second towlette and the moisturizer mixture.
• If you plan to be in the sun wear and broad brimmed hat, glasses and a SPF 30 such as Albissa Clinical Skin Care SPF 45 all day wear sun block.

VI Peel™ - Day 2
• The skin will be tight and may appear pink or a very dark tan, depending on how you look after sun exposure. If you tend to tan you might appear almost brown or black. Dark spots and areas of melasma will appear darker. Don’t be alarmed, this is natural and will eventually peel off once the peeling process begins.
• Continue to use the combined hydrocortisone and moisturizer recommended to you three times a day.
• Wash your face one hour prior to bedtime with a gentle cleanser such as Albissa Cucumber Gel (hyperlink to product) and pat dry, apply the second towlette and the moisturizer mixture.

VI Peel™ - Day 3
• The peeling occurs mainly around the mouth and moves outwards. The skin beginning to peel will look very dark. Some of the peeling will be in large pieces.
• Any very loose skin can be encouraged to come off by taking a warm shower and saturating the skin for 6 minutes then gently massaging the area. Do not rub hard or tear off the skin.
• Do not attempt to pull the skin off.
• After you have removed any dead skin in the shower, pat the skin dry. It will be red, sore and sensitive. Apply a thick layer of Aquaphor.

VI Peel™ - Day 4
• The skin will continue to peel and can be still sensitive.
• Do not over moisturize the skin, this will prolong the peeling.

VI Peel™ - Day 4 -7
• Peeling most likely continues throughout.
• Continue using the combination of moisturizer and hydrocortisone or Aquaphor if the other products sting.
• Remember to wear sunscreen every day. If desired, make-up can be worn throughout the peeling process
• After all peeling is complete; resume your normal skin care regimen.

Important Note:
Never rub aggressively or force the skin off while the skin is dry, if at any time the moisturizer, sunscreen or a combination of both, irritates your skin stop using them immediately and use Aquaphor. Use a gentle moisturizer such as Albissa Clinical Skin Care Multi Vitamin Cream and sunscreen that does not cause irritation to your skin type. To test a cream, apply a two dabs to the forehead and wait a five minutes to see if it irritates before applying it all over.
